How to Facilitate a Singles Workshop
-
1
Use a scheduling tool so that your workshop is organized. A daily planner or event planner can work well. Make sure that you know the issues you will be discussing so that you are clear about what discussion points fall under the topic area and which fall outside of it. Be certain what you want to achieve as well as what you want the workshop participants to achieve at the conclusion of the event.

2
Create a well-balanced environment by evenly spacing chairs, tables, and other furniture. The room should be arranged so that it is aesthetically pleasing to the guests and the host. To ensure that participants won't be sitting around all day, just listening to lectures, incorporate some dynamic activities such as group discussions and one-on-one conversations. Schedule enough activities that will keep participants interested and energetic, but not so many that the event becomes confusing or disorganized.

3
Open the discussion with an "icebreaker". Singles workshops can be difficult for even the brave to attend. It's important that participants get to know one another from the start so that they can relax and feel comfortable. Icebreakers come in all different forms; yours should be enjoyable but should not take up an inordinate amount of time.

4
Schedule regular breaks. A good rule of thumb is to allow everyone to get up and stretch every hour or so. However, use your judgment -- if the workshop participants look weary after forty-five minutes, be flexible enough to schedule a break as soon as it's needed.

Use all kinds of visual aids, such as handouts, flip charts, and pictures. You might also consider incorporating music or video.
