How to Replace Corelle Dishes

Clever marketing campaigns and urban legends have fueled the misconception that Corelle dinnerware is unbreakable. In fact, each Corelle piece is made of an extremely breakable glass, which has been laminated and thermally bonded to make it extra strong. Like all glass, it can chip or break if mishandled or abused. Follow these steps if you need to replace broken, chipped or stained Corelle dishes. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Determine your Dinnerware Line

    • 1

Corelle currently manufactures seven unique dinnerware lines: Livingware, Vive, Impressions, Square, Lifestyles, Ultra and Hearthstone. You can determine your dinnerware line at the Corelle website.

    • 2

Surf to the Corelle website and click on the "Showroom" tab.

    • 3

A drop-down box appears; click on the "View all patterns" option. Click through the designs until you see the one that matches your dinnerware. When you find the matching design, click on it for a complete description including the name of the dinnerware line.

    • 4

If you cannot find your pattern, click on the "Showroom" tab again, then click on the "Vintage Patterns" option. If you find your pattern in this area, it is a retired line.

    Replacing Dishes in Current Lines

    • 5

After determining your dinnerware line and pattern, click on the "Customer Care" tab near the top of the Corelle website.

    • 6

A drop-down menu appears. Click on the second option, "Warranty Information."

    • 7

A second drop-down menu appears listing the seven current lines. Click on your line's name for warranty requirements and information.

Five of the lines--Livingware, Vive, Impressions, Square and Lifestyles--have a three-year limited break and chip warranty. Ultra, which is heavier-weight glass dinnerware, has a five-year limited warranty. Hearthstone, Corelle's stoneware line, has a one-year limited warranty.

    • 8

Determine whether your breakage situation falls under warranty requirements. Because it is made of glass, Corelle dinnerware may break if dropped or hit against a hard surface. To be eligible for free replacement, breakage should have occurred during normal use, serving and/or clean up of a typical meal in a private home.

    • 9

Keep in mind that the warranty is void if the dish broke, chipped, cracked or stained if used: 1) on a stove or grill; 2) in a broiler or toaster oven; 3) near a pilot light or open flame; and 4) under a microwave oven browning element.

    • 10

Although microwave safe, empty Corelle dinnerware should not be heated in the microwave. In addition, it can stain or crack if used to: 1) hold food, including microwave popcorn, packaged in special browning bags; 2) heat a small amount of food (if you are using a much larger dish); and 3) overheat butter or oil.

    • 11

Like all glassware, Corelle should be used under stable temperatures. Cold food or liquid should not be added to hot dinnerware or it may crack or shatter.

    • 12

If breakage occurred during normal usage and within the warranty period, you can request a replacement by phoning Corelle (1-800-999-3436) during business hours (Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST; Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST).

You can also contact them via email at helpcenter@worldkitchen.com.

    • 13

Do not discard the damaged item. Corelle may ask you to return it to them.

    Replacing Dishes in Retired Lines

    • 14

If your dinnerware is not part of a current line, there are several ways to replace broken pieces.

    • 15

Corelle keeps a limited number of discontinued pieces in its inventory. Contact Corelle's Customer Care Department at 1-800-999-3436 during business hours (Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST; Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST).

    • 16

Because Corelle dinnerware lasts a long time, you may occasionally find vintage older lines in thrift shops or secondhand stores.

    • 17

Ebay and the Replacements.com web store are two online sources for discontinued Corelle dinnerware.

Tips & Warnings

  • Abrasive cleaners may scratch Corelle dishes. Use gentle cleansers and plastic or nylon cleaning pads to remove dried-on food particles from plates, platters and bowls.
