How to Hang Porch Beds
A great way to relax and enjoy the summer air is to install a porch bed to your front porch. This task is easy to do and only takes minor tools. Installing a porch bed will make your house look more inviting and comfortable. Plus, a hanging porch bed is a wonderful place to enjoy your breakfast, read a book or take a quick nap during the day. Using a stud finder, locate the studs in the ceiling of your porch. The porch bed will hang from these studs so it's important to find a secure anchor point.

Measure the distance between the studs on the ceiling and mark their position. Accurately locate each stud so that you can mark its center, not its edge.

Drill small starter holes into the center of each marked ceiling stud. It is critical that each hole is drilled into the center of the stud.

Screw each support hook into each starter hole then connect the support chains to the support hooks. Check to ensure that the support hooks will bear weight by pulling the support chains with a good amount of force.

Attach the porch bed to the support chains. Use a bubble level to ensure the bed is level and make any adjustments to level the bed left to right and front to back.

Check the clearance between the bed and floor. Make any height adjustments for comfort.

Gently and carefully place your full body weight on the bed. Once you are satisfied with the ability of the bed to hold your weight, move around on the bed to verify its ability to support a moving weight as well as the support hooks and chains.

Finding and then securing each support hook to the center of the ceiling studs is critical for safety.
