Instructions

    • 1

Measure the height of your pot and double that measurement. Measure a length of twine to match the doubled measurement from your pot and add an additional 6 feet of twine. For example, if your pot is 12 inches tall your initial length of twine should be 48 inches, or 2 feet. Once you add the additional 6 feet you will have 8 feet of twine. Note that these measurements do not have to be exact. If you don't have a tape measure handy, estimate as well as you can.

    • 2

Cut 23 additional pieces of twine equal in length to the piece you created in Step 1.

    • 3

Hold the 23 pieces of twine together and loop them in half. Measure down about 4 inches from the top of the loop and knot all of the twine pieces together. Your planter will hang from this loop.

    • 4

Take 3 pieces of twine and braid them down to the end. Use a small bit of tape to secure them until later. Repeat this process with the additional twine--using 3 strands at a time--until you have 8 braids.

    • 5

Knot two of the braids together about 2 feet from the loop at the top. Knot the rest of the braids together in pairs.

    • 6

Take two of the double braids and lay them next to each other. Now, move down about 6 inches from the knot that joins the braids and knot one of the single braids from one strand to one of the single braids from the other strand. Move to the double braid to the right and knot the remaining single braid on that side to another of the single braids. Keep moving right until all of the single braids have been used and you have a kind of circular crisscross pattern.

    • 7

Move down another 6 inches from the last set of knots that you made and repeat the process, alternating the braids that you used to create another crisscross pattern.

    • 8

Move down another 6 inches from the last set of knots and knot all of the braids together in a single large knot. Remove the tape from the ends of the braids to make a small fringe tassel. Set the pot in the middle of the bottom knot. The crisscross pattern should go up around the sides of the pot.
