How to Remove the Tank of an '06 Kawasaki 500 Vulcan

The 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 utilizes a steel fuel tank mounted to the motorcycle's frame just above the engine. Over time, rust and dirt can collect in the fuel tank, causing a potential for blockages in the fuel system. To properly clean the fuel tank, you must remove it from the motorcycle's frame. You can easily remove the tank on your '06 Kawasaki 500 Vulcan in less than an hour. Remember, gasoline is highly flammable; be aware of any sources of spark or heat, such as space heaters or drop lights.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also drain the tank by removing the fuel line from the carburetor, opening the fuel valve and allowing the fuel to drain into a container. This method may take longer, however.

  • Never smoke or allow others around you to smoke while handling gasoline.

  • Gasoline vapors are highly toxic. Always work in a well-ventilated area.
