How to Make a Christmas Tree Out of Clothes Hangers
Christmas trees are a common sight during the holiday season. Most Christmas trees are either freshly chopped evergreen trees or plastic versions of evergreen trees in various colors. According to the University of Illinois Extension, there are approximately 500,000 Christmas trees growing on farms in the United States. Break away from the confines of plant or plastic. 1
Secure a coat hook onto the wall. Use a coat hook with a bulbous or curved ending that will not allow a hanger to slide off of it. Place the coat hook in close proximity to an electrical outlet.
-
2
Wrap Garland around the hangers. Use one wooden hanger and wire hangers. Wrap the Garland around every part of each hanger except the hooks. According to an August 4, 2007 MSNBC report entitled "What to do with your wire hanger," there are 3.5 billion wire hangers in landfills each year. Do your part to save the environment by re-purposing the wire hangers you get from the dry cleaners.

3
Hang a wooden hanger on the coat hook. Use a wooden coat hanger as the top of the tree.
-
4
Glue a wire hanger on each end of the wooden hanger. Pinch the wire hanger hooks over the wooden hanger with your fingers. Use craft glue to secure the wire hangers to the wooden hanger. The glue prevents the hangers from sliding.
-
5
Place a wire hanger in the middle of the wooden hanger. Use craft glue to secure the middle hanger to the wooden hanger.
-
6
Create the tree. Place a hanger on each side of the left, middle and right hangers. Us craft glue to secure them. Continue the pattern to approximately one foot from the floor. The pattern distributes the weight of the hangers evenly. The pattern also mimics the triangle shape of the evergreen tree.
-
7
Throw tinsel onto the hangers. Cover each hanger with tinsel. Pay special attention to covering any gaps between hangers. Tinsel comes in a variety of colors including silver, gold, red and blue.
-
8
Add lights or small ornaments. Wire hangers are for lightweight items. Choose either lights or ornaments as decoration or use very small or lightweight ornaments in addition to lights. Another alternative is to use electrical tape to place lights around the tree as an outline.
-
9
Add Styrofoam as snow. Use crushed Styrofoam as fake snow underneath the clothes hanger Christmas tree. According to Dow, a ski center in the United Kingdom uses Styrofoam as a replacement for snow on an indoor ski slope.

For a more three-dimensional clothes hanger Christmas tree, use a coat hook with a longer neck and hang clothes hangers perpendicular to the top hanger as well as down the middle.
As an alternative, use a plant hook nailed to the ceiling to create a hanging clothes hanger Christmas tree.
