Things You'll Need:
- Cottage Cheese
- Cooked Rice
- Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breast
- Pedialyte or Gatorade
- Grass
- Pepto-Bismol (if recommended by vet)
-
Step 1
Always have clean water.Clean their water bowl. Wash and replace the water in their water bowl more frequently. This will reduce the amount of dust, germs and other contaminates that may settle in their bowl. The clean water will help cleanse their body of unwanted toxins that may be making them sick. If your dog has diarrhea as well, you may want to add a little bit of Pedialyte or Gatorade to the water in their bowl to help them replace their electrolytes.
-
Step 2
Fasting will help your dog feel better.Hold off on food. If you notice your dog is vomiting, you should immediately remove all of the food from their bowl. Do not give any more food for at least 12 hours. Giving them any food during this fast may cause their upset stomach to return.
-
Step 3
Cottage cheese provides good enzymes.Let them eat some cottage cheese mixed with rice. Cottage cheese will help settle their stomach and the rice will help cleanse their system. For some added protein, you can add some boiled skinless chicken breast. Try to feed them the cottage mix in small potions about 2-3 times a day. After a couple of days, slowly incorporate the dog's regular meals into the diet.
-
Step 4
Grass helps aid digestion.Eat Grass. Allowing your dog to go outside and eat some grass will help clean their digestive system. Dogs will typically eat grass when their stomachs feel overly full or upset. Make sure to take them to an area with no pesticides or other chemicals that may harm your dog.
-
Step 5
Only if recommended by vet.Give some Pepto-Bismol. Your veterinarian may suggest giving your dog some Pepto-Bismol to help settle their stomach. If you decide to take this route, please follow your vet's directions precisely. There is always risk when feeding pets medicine that is intended for humans.
-
Step 6
Watch your dog carefully. Keep an eye out to see if your dog has become extremely lethargic or if they have increased vomiting and diarrhea. If dog continues to show these symptoms after several days, go see a veterinarian as soon as possible. Depending on the situation, you may need to see the vet sooner. Monitor your dog very carefully.
