Things You'll Need:
- Hydrogen Peroxide
- Water
- Toothbrush/tooth paste
- Salt water
-
Step 1
The first step is prevention
First, if possible, brush your teeth and rinse your mouth with warm salt water as soon as you notice you have bit your lip or inner mouth. This will help to prevent a canker sore. You need to be sure to brush your teeth regularly. Make sure to brush before bed and when you wake in the morning. It is important to brush after eating foods containing lots of sugars because the sugar could feed/create a candida (yeast) infection. -
Step 2
Next is treatment
If the place you have bitten yourself becomes a canker sore, you will want to make a peroxide/water solution. You will want to mix the peroxide 50/50 with water. Make sure you add enough water. Next you will swish this mixture in your mouth for 30 seconds. Be sure to spit all of the solution out. DO NOT SWALLOW IT! I recommend doing this before brushing. The peroxide will also help to loosen plaque between your teeth which you will be able to brush away more easily. That will also help heal your canker sore. -
Step 3
The peroxide solution will form a tough outer skin over the canker sore and that will help with the pain and start the healing process. You should do this once a day for three days. If you notice your canker sore is getting worse a few days after the treatment, start another three day treatment. If it is really bad, you may need to seek medical attention.
And now back to step one...Prevention!
Brush, Brush, Brush!
If your child gets a canker sore, you may not want to use this technique because they may swallow. My recommendation is to dip a cotton ball in the solution and swab the sore. This will start the healing process but you will not have to worry about your child swallowing any of the solution.
This is the best way to get rid of canker sores easily.
