How to Put on Shoe Pom Poms

Pom poms attach to the shoelace of a shoe and are made in one or two colors. Traditionally, cheerleaders wear pom poms to complement uniforms and show off school colors. Pom poms can be purchased in plastic but many are homemade from yarn. The sizes can vary, but the average diameter is about 2 inches. Jingle bells can be added for a little extra noise. Adding pom poms to roller skates or attaching to a pony tail is also popular.

Things You'll Need

• Twist tie
• Safety pin
• Large eye needle
• Yarn
• Scissors

Instructions

1. Thread a plastic twist tie through the center of the pom pom. Lace the shoe in the traditional style with the bow at the top of the shoe. Attach the pom pom at the bottom of the lace by twisting the tie around the lace and securing.

2. Insert a large safety pin through the center of the pom pom. Secure the safety pin at the base of the shoelace.

3. Thread a large eyed needle with yarn and push the needle through the center of the pom pom. Leave a tail of 5 inches on both sides of the pom pom. Cut the yarn and tie the yarn at the base of the shoelace.

4. Use a twist tie, safety pin, or yarn to secure the pom pom to an eyelet at the bottom of the shoelace.
