How to Clean Vinyl Decks

Vinyl is a weather-resistant material that is commonly used in outdoor decks in both residential and commercial properties. It's a low-maintenance material that is highly durable and never needs to be painted or sealed. The nonporous surface of vinyl is resistant to most stains and is easy to clean. Use a few common household items to keep your vinyl deck looking like new.

Things You'll Need

  • Garden hose
  • Liquid dishwashing soap
  • Water
  • Bucket
  • Scrub brush
  • Spray the vinyl deck with a garden hose to wash away dirt and loose debris.

  • Add liquid dishwashing soap to a bucket of warm water.

  • Apply the soap solution to the deck.

  • Scrub the vinyl with a scrub brush working the soap into any dirt or residue. The soap will break up residue, making it much easier to remove and wash away.

  • Reapply the soap solution to the deck, working in small sections, until the entire deck is covered. Scrub away remaining stains.

  • Rinse the deck with the garden hose to remove soap and dirt.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use abrasive cleaners (acidic) on vinyl. This will damage the material.
