Instructions

Create a customized place card by starting with the base. Instead of using card stock, which is the most common material used to make place cards, change things up. Use a sugar cookie for a base and write the guest's name in icing. Press leaves and write the names on them with permanent marker. Use patterned scrapbook paper to create innovative cards. Write the guest's name on a plain card and glue it to the scrapbook paper.

Customize plain place cards and make them interesting by setting them up in a unique way. Cut a slit in the side of a wine cork and slip the place card into it. Or, string a ribbon around each chair and place a folded-over place card over the ribbon on the back of the chair for each guest.

Tailor the place cards to each person individually. Instead of writing names on the place cards, use a photo of that person. Place it on the card or use miniature frames for each place setting. Or, write a few lines from a poem, movie or song lyric on the back of each person's card that remind you of that person. Another personal touch is to write a favorite memory you have with that person on their card. It will make her smile and add an intimate touch to the place card.
