How to Make Your Own Candle Holder With Plastic Spoons
Candle holders come in all shapes and sizes. They are readily available at home stores, online, and even at the grocery store. There are many crafts for making your own candle holders. One unconventional method is to use plastic spoons to decorate your candle. Since they are plastic and will melt, they will be glued to the outside of a container instead of housing the candle itself, but they will add a unique touch to your candle display.

Basic Method

1
Choose a glass container to be the main part of the holder. You want to choose a container that is large enough to hold the size candle you will be using and does not have a neck that is considerably thinner than the container. Thin necks will cut off the oxygen supply and your candle will not stay lit. Old jelly jars, mason jars, pickle jars, and existing glass candle jars are good choices.
-
2
Clean the container thoroughly and allow it to dry completely before proceeding.

3
Trim the handles of the spoons using craft scissors, if necessary. Your spoons should be level with the lip of the jar. Sand down the cut edges to avoid injury.
-
4
Attach the spoons to your container using a hot glue gun. Alternate the direction of the spoons so that one is handle down and the next is handle up. Glue the spoons until the entire jar is covered.
-
5
Allow the glue to dry for a minimum of 30 minutes.
-
6
Tie a ribbon around the center of the container. Use a dab of hot glue behind the bow to attach it.
-
7
Glue small decorations inside the bowls of the spoons. You can use small gems, silk flowers, or anything else that strikes your fancy.
Alternative Decorations
-
8
Paint the outside of the jar using heat resistant paints before hot gluing the spoons to the jar.
-
9
Create people out of the spoons using fabric or paper for clothing, and googly eyes and pompoms for eyes and noses. Use yarn for hair and a smile.
-
10
Try different shapes and colors of spoons for a more abstract effect.
