Metal plant markers point out where perennial plants are, once winter arrives.

Metal plant markers can be an attractive way to identify plants in your garden. Additionally, metal plant markers are durable and long lasting. Brass and copper labels will gain a brownish patina throughout the years, or possibly even a bluish-green patina. Often, during the colder times of the year, plants will die back. An absent-minded person -- or any gardener -- may not remember what was last planted in an area. A lovely metal plant marker that won't decay in the elements is an excellent answer to the question of "What is that plant?" Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a strip of 30 gauge metal 3-by-6 inches wide.

    • 2

Fold the strip of metal into thirds, with the folds pointing toward the back of the marker, leaving 1/3 of the marker visible.

    • 3

Cut a blunt point on one end of the folded marker, using the metal cutting shears. This will allow the marker to stick into the ground.

    • 4

Emboss the name of the plant in the third of the marker that is exposed, using the pointy metal stylus tool.

    • 5

Repeat the steps until all of your plants are labeled.
