How to Use Humor in a Dating Profile
Internet dating has become a popular way to meet people today, as the Web has broadened enough to allow singles to find others who share their various interests. When creating a profile for yourself, it can be tricky to come off well enough to get noticed and make someone choose you from the sea of other profiles. Adding a bit of humor, when done well, can be a good way to accomplish this.

Adding Humor
-
1
Start with your relationship status/history. Everyone has had ups and downs; being clever here can make it easy for others to relate. Go with something like a used-car metaphor: "35-year-old male, low miles, only one previous owner," or think of a similar approach.
-
2
Exaggerate aspects of your appearance and/or job. People expect a fib or two anyway, so do it a bit over the top, in a way that makes the reader chuckle, and then give the real details.
-
-
3
Poke fun at yourself in other areas, too, but remember the fine line between self-deprecation and coming off insecure or lacking confidence.
-
4
Find humorous ways to describe the qualities you look for in a potential mate, without sounding superficial or rude. Go back to the car metaphor maybe---"seeking vintage sports car, only ridden hard on weekends" or "luxury sedan with room for 2 to 3 car seats."
-
5
Add a few photos that show your lighter side and express some of your personality.
-
6
Joke a little about the concept of internet dating. This will show that you realize some people may have a stigma about it and feel it comes with an air of desperation. You want them to know as well that you are not some lonely person living in his parent's basement.
-
7
Try not to go overboard with the humor. Balance it to give the reader a well-rounded idea of the real you and the perception that she should consider you seriously as a potential partner.
