How to Get a Stuck Cake Out of a Bundt Pan

Bundt pans are great for creating unique cake designs, thanks to their ring shape and variety of patterns ranging from simple to ornate. They're generally nonstick and a breeze to clean, but if the cake does get stuck in the pan, there's a simple process to get it out.

Plug up the drain of the sink. Soak a bath towel in steaming hot water and place it in the sink, then add a few inches of very hot water.

Tightly seal the opening of the cake pan with foil to prevent water from getting into the cake.

Shape the towel to form a nest for the cake pan to sit in with the foil-covered end of the pan facing up. Push the towel snugly around the sides of the pan.

Warning

Be careful not to burn your hands in the hot water.

Cover the sink with another towel to hold the steam, which will loosen the cake from the side of the pan. Keep the cake covered for 10 to 15 minutes.

Using potholders, carefully remove the pan from the sink, then uncover the cake.

Hit the bottom of the pan on the countertop or other solid surface. Tap along the sides of the pan with a wooden spoon to loosen the sides.

Place a plate upside down on the opening of the bundt pan, then flip the pan upside down.

If the cake is still stuck, pop it in the freezer for a few minutes. Then, remove it from the freezer and hit the bottom of the pan on the countertop. Repeat step seven.

Tip

Grapefruit knives are slightly curved and work better than a straight-edged knife to insert along the sides of the pan and loosen the cake.

Before baking, coat the inside of the bundt pan with cooking spray and dust it with flour.

After baking, remove the cake before it has completely cooled.
