Examine your rifle to see if it is adaptable to this kind of sling. The vast majority of rifles can accept a buttstock sling. Some rifles, like the AR-15 platform, have buttstock slings specifically built for them. Other buttstock slings are universal.

Slip the butt end of the sling onto the butt of the rifle. It is a three-point attachment. One point will come around the back of the butt. Another point will come across the top side of the butt. The third will be open. You wrap it around the bottom of the rifle and attach it to the connector that will be attached to the point that comes from the top of the rifle. Make sure it is snug.

Examine the front attachment. It should be a loop or it could be a clip. Make sure before you purchase your sling. If there is no attachment, some kind of sling with a loop attachment is the only option. If there is no obvious place to attach the front of the sling, make absolutely sure that the sling does not interfere with the sights.
