How to Cash in Advantage Miles
Members of American Airlines Advantage program accrue frequent flyer miles that can be used to purchase future flights, vacations, rental cars, and other services from partnered companies. Miles are accrued whenever a member travels on an American, American Eagle, or AmericanConnection flight or when purchases are made using a credit card affiliated with the program. Once 25,000 miles are accrued, a member can cash miles in for a round-trip U.S. domestic Economy Class flight. The member is then only required to pay taxes and processing fees. Miles can also be cashed in for higher-class seating and international flights.

Tips & Warnings
If you need to know how many miles are in your Advantage account prior to booking, log-on to the My Account section of AA.com and check out your account summary.
If you're short on miles, it's possible to buy more from American Airlines. This can sometimes be a cheaper alternative to booking a flight at regular prices.
There are only a few seats per flight dedicated to Advantage customers. It can be difficult to book exact dates using miles. It's better to use miles for flights when your travel dates or departure times can be flexible.
Miles are subject to black-out dates. Using miles for travel around the holidays is not usually possible.
