Save

Codecs, also known as 'compression decompressions,' are video encoding specifications which are used to encode media in a standardized form for playback on other devices which posses the same codec. Changing the codec of a specific media file is indicated when the target playback device either does not posses the currently encoded codec or is not optimized for said codec. Changing a media files codec is an easy process which any computer user can accomplish.

  • Launch 4U AVI MPEG Converter from the installation directly.

  • Left-click the "Add" button located on the main program window.

  • Navigate to the desired file you wish to change using the supplied dialog box and click the "Add" button in the lower right corner.

  • Left-click the file in the program's main window once and click the "Options" button in the center of the program window.

  • Select the output format you wish to encode this file into from the provided dialog box.

  • Select the specific options next to file type you have chosen for this conversion. These options dictate the file size and quality of the encoding. Selecting higher bit rates and resolutions will maintain the current quality while leading to larger file sizes. Conversely, reducing bit rate and resolution will lower the file size at the expense of quality.

  • Left-click the "Apply" button and then the "OK" button.

  • Left-click the "Convert button located to the left of the "Options" button to begin the Codec change. This process may take several minutes to several hours depending on the file size and the efficiency of your computer.
