How to Install Bulk Grease in a Manual Grease Gun

Bulk grease for a grease gun is available in convenient, pre-filled grease cartridges. Many grease types and weights are available for many different purposes, from heavy machinery to automotive lubrication. Loading grease into a manual grease gun is a very simply process. It can also be a messy chore. Keep a few cloth rags or paper towels near by to wipe up any mess and dispose of them using environmentally friendly practices. Once the bulk grease cartridge is loaded and pressurized, it is ready for immediate use.

    Things You'll Need

    • Grease gun
    • Bulk grease cartridge
      • 1

Remove the head of the grease gun. The head is the end that dispenses the grease.

      • 2

Pull the T-handle back all the way and lock it into that position.

      • 3

Pull the plastic cap off of the bulk grease tube and insert that end into the empty barrel of the grease gun (remove the empty grease cartridge before inserting a new cartridge if an empty grease cartridge is still in the barrel). The metal rim of the bulk grease cartridge should seat against the rim of the barrel.

      • 4

Remove the pull-tab seal from the bulk grease tube. Re-attach the grease gun head.

      • 5

Unlock the T-handle and push the plunger forward (experiencing resistance is normal). Pressurize the barrel by pushing down on the T-handle and pumping the grease gun at the same time.
