How to Place a Trade on Scottrade
Placing a trade on the Scottrade website is easy to do but might require some coaching if you are used to working with a full-service stock broker. Use this guide to help you during your first time on the website or any other time you need help placing a trade.

Open an account at Scottrade.com by clicking on "Open An Account" and following the instructions. Once your account has been established, you can access the trading section of the website.

Click the "Trade" button at the top of the homepage for your Scottrade account. Using the menu on the left side of the page, click on the type of security you wish to buy or sell: stocks, options, mutual funds, CDs and bonds, or other orders.

Complete all of the fill-in or drop-down menu items as requested by the website, such as the amount you wish to buy or sell and the security symbol. You will be prompted if your order information is incomplete or inconsistent.

Click the "review order" button and read the order information displayed on this page of the Scottrade website. At this point, you can place the order, make changes or cancel it.

View your confirmation to ensure that you have bought or sold the proper type of security. Follow any instructions about adding funds to the account, if necessary.
