How to Make Labels in a Word Processing Program
Labels make everything look more polished and professional. This includes everything from the letters sent to family and friends to business correspondence and even the boxes sitting on the shelf to organize it. However, many people have no idea how to go about creating the labels for these and other applications. Fortunately, the word processing programs in computers contain easy methods for dealing with the need to make labels.

First of all, take a look around and determine what type of labels are needed for the situation at hand. Making a list of the types of labels needed and comparing this information to the various kinds of templates found in the various word processing programs gives a person the information he or she needs to do the job. Many kinds and brand names of label papers are listed within the pop-up box in the word processing program. To name a few, they range in size from sheets containing 80 return address labels to 30 regular sized address labels, or full paper sized ones to cover a notebook, and even special ones made for CD cases and CDs or DVDs.

Also, while looking through the dialog box in your word processing software, one will notice different ways of entering the information onto labels. If the primary need is return address labels, a simple click on a template for that purpose allows the user of the program to input the address once. The program will then copy the information over onto every label on the sheet.

Sheets of labels also may be made with different information on each label. Those who have a database of the necessary information may choose to import it from whatever file it resides in by clicking on the appropriate command. Others, however, choose to begin a brand new set of labels, manually entering each piece of information as they go. Doing the task in this second way allows the person more control over spelling, font size, and color, among other attributes.

When the labels have been set up, it becomes time to print them. The paper is placed in the printer as it would be for any other project. Follow the print commands in the program or on the printer, being sure to line the paper up carefully so the text fits onto each label as desired. Save the labels for another use or as a template for the future, as it can be changed quickly and easily for each need that arises.

Although it may sound tedious, making labels need not be any more difficult than creating any other type of document on a word processor. Having computer generated labels makes organization and mailing easier by allowing those who see the labels to read the information on them much more easily than if things had been written by hand.
