How to Relieve Toothache Pain

Toothache pain can be throbbing or dull. It is difficult to concentrate on anything when you are suffering from toothache pain. Your toothache pain may even be caused by a sinus infection. Toothache pain may also be caused by a cavity, or gum disease. You will need to see your dentist to diagnosis the cause of your toothache pain. There are steps you can take to relieve your toothache pain

  • Dental appointment
  • Antibiotic
  • Anti inflammatory medication
  • Ice pack
  1. Step 1

    Visit your dentist. You will need a dental evaluation to determine the cause of your toothache pain. Your dentist will inspect your mouth and teeth and may take an x-ray. Once he determines the cause of your toothache, he will devised a treatment plan to relieve your toothache pain.

  2. Step 2

    Take an antibiotic. Your toothache pain may be related to an infected tooth, or gum infection. If this is the case, your dentist may prescribe an oral antibiotic. Getting rid of your infection will relieve your toothache pain.

  3. Step 3

    Try an anti inflammatory medication. An over the counter anti inflammatory medication may relieve toothache pain. Follow the directions, and do not take them if you are taking medications to thin your blood. Ask your doctor or dentist before taking anti inflammatory medication to relieve toothache pain.

  4. Step 4

    Try ice. Apply an ice pack to the side of the affected toothache. The ice pack will also relieve inflammation. Do not put ice directly on your skin. An ice pack is an effective way to relieve toothache pain.

  • Try a numbing gel. Over counter numbing gels are effective in relieving toothache pain. To relieve toothache pain, apply a small amount on the tissue surrounding the painful tooth. This will temporarily numb the area and relieve toothache pain.
  • If your toothache pain is accompanied by a fever, see your dentist or doctor. You may have a medical condition or severe infection that may need medical attention. Your doctor or dentist will recommend measures to relieve toothache pain.
