How to Remove Adhesive Tape From Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tile is a common foundation for flooring--it is a flat, smooth surface over which new floors can be installed directly. Bonding a floor to the tile requires adhesive, sometimes in the form of tape. When a floor is removed for replacement, the adhesive tape is exposed and may be difficult to remove as well. This task can be completed rather simply using an adhesive solvent that can be safely applied to floor surfaces.

Things You'll Need

• Adhesive solvent
• Long-handled scraper
• Broom

Instructions

1. Choose an adhesive solvent suitable for ceramic tile flooring. Most available brands can safely be applied to indoor and outdoor surfaces.

2. Establish a ventilated workspace before using the chemical. Opening the windows in the room will help you avoid inhaling hazardous fumes.

3. Apply the solvent properly by reading the directions on the product label. Allow it to soak for the instructed length of time to allow the tape adhesive to soften.

4. Loosen the residue with the long-handled scraper using only moderate pressure. Add more adhesive solvent if certain areas cannot be lifted easily.

5. Sweep the floor completely of any loose adhesive tape. Use a mild detergent to clean the ceramic tile, for a thorough removal.
