How to Install a 1984 Ford 150 Tailgate Latch
The tailgate latch on a 1984 Ford F150 is the small latch bolted to the inside of each bedrail, just above the taillight assembly. When the tailgate is closed, control rods on each side of the tailgate extend outward and rest against these latches, securing the cargo in your truck bed. Lifting the tailgate handle in the center of the tailgate pulls these control rods inward, so that the tailgate can swing downward, free of the latches. Because these latches are bent from a single piece of round steel wire, they can become further bent or otherwise damaged over time. Excessive rust may also cause these pieces to malfunction.
