How to Cook and Prepare Ahi Yellow Fin Tuna Steaks

Ahi yellow fin tuna, also known as shibi in Hawaii, gets its name because both its soft dorsal and anal fins and finlets are bright yellow. The yellow fin tuna generally is a fish that spends most of its time in depths that range from the surface to 100 feet. It is a favorite among fishermen and seafood lovers.   • 2 ahi yellow fin tuna steaks
  • Soy sauce
  • Lemon juice
  • Crushed garlic (for each steak)
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Sea salt
  • Fresh ground black pepper

      Prepare a marinade for the steaks by combining the following ingredients in a shallow glass dish: 1 cup of soy sauce, 1/2 cup of lemon juice, 2 cloves of crushed garlic, 4 tbsp. of extra virgin olive oil, sea salt and pepper to taste.

      Coat the steaks thoroughly on both sides with the marinade. Allow the steaks to sit in the marinade for 30 minutes.

      Light the charcoal or preheat the grill. Coat the grill with vegetable oil to prevent the tuna steaks from sticking.

      Grill the steaks for about 4 minutes on each side for a medium steak with a pink middle, and about 2 1/2 to 3 minutes on each side for a medium rare steak.
