Save

Lenses are found in numerous products including eyeglasses, sunglasses and goggles. The purpose of a lens is to transmit and refract light. Lenses can also be used to protect one's eyes from harmful exposure. They are typically made of transparent plastic or glass and can become dirty with repeated exposure to moist conditions. To clean lenses using rubbing alcohol, make a homemade cleaner with just a few common household items.

Things You'll Need

  • Spray bottle
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Liquid dish soap
  • Soft cloth
  • Fill a spray bottle three fourths full of rubbing alcohol. Add two drops of liquid dish soap to the bottle and fill the rest of the bottle with water.

  • Shake the cleaning solution gently to mix the ingredients.

  • Spray the cleaner on both sides of the lenses.

  • Rub the lenses dry using a soft cloth.

  • Reapply cleaning solution to lenses until completely clean.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use rubbing alcohol on camera lenses. The alcohol may cause a film to develop on the lens making it very difficult to clean. A slightly moist soft cloth is best used to clean camera lenses.
