How to Design a Master Chief Halo 3 Spartan
Halo 3's appearance features allow the gamer more freedom to design their own Master Chief Spartan. In addition to Halo 2's color and emblem schemes, Halo 3 has added in unlockable customizable armor schemes that apply to the shoulders, helmet and body. Each armor type can be mixed and matched to create a wide variety of different appearances for your Spartan.

Press the start button on your Xbox 360 controller while you're on any Halo 3 menu. The only time you can't design your own Spartan is during game play. Pressing start will open a dialog box.

Press in the right direction on left thumb stick to navigate to the Settings tab. Press down on the left thumb stick until you highlight the option "Appearance." Press the "A" button to modify and design your Spartan.

Scroll down using the left thumb stick and press the "A" button on "Armor." This will allow you to change your character to a Spartan if necessary and customize the appearance by changing the armor types on your shoulders, arms, helmet and body. There are 11 armor types to unlock for Spartans. See the resources section for tips on unlocking different types of armor.

Press the "B" button to finish editing the armor type and send you back to the "Appearance" menu. The other sections on the appearance menu allow you to customize the color, gender and logo of your character the same way as in Halo 2. Press "A" on each section the same way you did when editing the armor types. Press the "B" button to go back to the "Appearance" menu when finished.
