How to Invigorate Centipede Grass

Centipede decline happens when centipede grass loses root attachment to the soil. It starts with grass wilting and dying, and the patches spread out from the initial affected area. There haven't been any diseases identified with the problem, but there are a few things you can do to help your lawn if your centipede grass is not looking its best.       Mow your grass at a height of one inch or less every week. This will help heal your grass. Mowing at heights over two inches can promote centipede decline.

      Measure out your nitrogen fertilizer. Use 0.5 pounds of nitrogen per 1,000 square feet of lawn to help your grass recover. Two pounds of nitrogen per 1,000 square feet has proven to promote centipede decline, so be sure you do not over-fertilize.

      Apply nitrogen fertilizer in April, June, August and October.
