How to Dye Over Highlighted Hair

If you have ever tried to dye over highlighted hair, you know how difficult it can be and how quickly it can fade. Highlighted hair is hard to dye, but with a few additional steps including adding a filler product, you can dye over your highlights and keep the color you want. Things You'll Need

• Hair filler in clear or your desired hair color
• Hair dye
• Coloring bottle or brush and bowl
• Color protecting shampoo
• Deep conditioner
• Gloves

Instructions

1. Apply a hair filler product in the color of your choice to the highlighted portion of your hair while wearing gloves. A filler product fills in any pieces missing or damaged by bleaching hair.

2. Allow the hair filler to process according to the package directions.

3. Apply your hair dye directly over the hair filler, making sure to saturate all hair strands.

4. Process the color according to the time listed on the instructions.

5. Rinse your hair, and shampoo with a color-protecting shampoo.

6. Apply the deep conditioner while still in the shower, and then rinse after three to five minutes.
