How to Make a Fake Snake Out of Construction Paper
The hours between the end of the school day and bedtime can be long, and every parent wants a way to occupy her child during this time. A paper craft project is a way to keep children of all ages interested and will help teach them about following directions, working with others, and the value of a job well done. At the end of this project, your kids will also have a fun new plaything as well.
Things You'll Need
- 1 sheet each of two different colors of construction paper, at least 10 inches in length
- Scissors
- Tape
- Black marker
- Plastic drinking straw
- Red construction paper
Instructions
-
-
1
Cut one color of construction paper into three strips that are approximately 1 inch width and 10 inches in length.
-
2
Tape the paper strips together to make one long strip that should be approximately 30 inches in length.
-
-
3
Repeat this process with another color of construction paper. At the end you will have two strips of construction paper that are both about 30 inches in length.
-
4
Tape the two pieces of construction paper together at one end to form the shape of the letter L.
-
5
Fold the two piece of paper into an accordion like shape by folding the two strips of paper over one another. Fold the first color over the second color and when the strips return to the L shape, fold the second color over the first color.
-
6
Keep folding the alternating colors into an accordion until there are approximately six inches of paper remaining on each strip.
-
7
Cut one of the 6-inch strips off and then tape the end so the accordion pieces won't come apart.
-
8
Cut the shape of a heart out of a piece of construction paper that is the same color paper as the strip that was not cut in the previous step. This will make the head of the snake.
-
9
Tape the heart to the end of the strip of paper that was not cut to make the snake's head.
-
10
Use a drinking straw to help make the head stand up. Lay the straw flat at the back of the snake's head and tape it down to form a support beam. Cut away any excess straw that is sticking up over the snake's head.
-
11
Cut a piece of red construction paper into the shape of a snake's forked tongue and glue it to the front of the snake's face.
-
12
Draw two eyes with a black marker.
