How to Make Necklaces From Scrabble Tiles

Creating homemade jewelry is an enjoyable arts and craft project, but no other projects are quite as trouble-free and appealing as the Scrabble tile pendant necklace. This necklace is a pendant made of a tile from the board game Scrabble. Although simple, the Scrabble tile will add character and creative flair to any person's style. Instructions

    • 1

Create a design to put on the Scrabble tile. Some ideas are a two-toned image of an animal or object, a pattern, words, flowers or even figure drawings.

    • 2

Scan this design into a computer program such as Adobe Photoshop or create the design again using the program. Use an image from a photograph or any other source instead of designing an image if desired, however, do not use photos or images that are copyrighted.

    • 3

Resize the image to the size of the Scrabble tile, which is around 3/4-inch, or slightly larger if you want to cover the sides of the tile.

    • 4

Print the image onto photo paper with a color printer.

    • 5

Coat the image with acrylic medium, typically called matte medium or gloss medium, to seal or finish the image. Cut the image from the paper once the medium is dry.

    • 6

Apply a craft glue to the Scrabble tile. Place the image on blank side of the tile. Turn the tile upside down and lay it flat against a piece of wax paper. Apply pressure. Pick the tile back up, clean up the edges and let the tile dry for 6 hours.

    • 7

Brush on another coat of acrylic medium and allow to the layer to dry completely.

    • 8

Attach the pendant bail to the tile with a little bit of glue on the back, either in the center to make a square pendant or at the corner to make a diamond. Let the glue dry overnight. Thread a chain or ribbon through the bail.

Tips & Warnings

  • Draw an image directly onto the photo paper to avoid using Photoshop or another image editing program.
