How to Use Terminal on iPhone

If you are used to using Terminal on your Mac to navigate, install and customize your computer and would like that same experience on your Apple iPhone, there is a new app out on the Cydia appstore that will give you that Terminal experience on your iPhone. You will need to jailbreak your iPhone in order to get Cydia, so get that done first and then come back to use this guide.

Things You'll Need

  • Jailbroken iPhone
  • Turn on your iPhone and go to the Cydai appstore icon which is on your iPhone home screen. Its default icon is brown. Press the icon when you find it and Cydia will open.

  • Click on the magnifying glass on the lower-right corner of Cydia when it opens and type in "Mobile terminal" when a text box appears. Click the search button and you will be given a list of available apps.

  • Scroll down to the "Mobileterminal" app and press it. You will see an "Install" button on the upper-right corner. Press that button to install terminal. Exit out of Cydia when it is completed.

  • Click onto the mobile terminal icon on your iPhone's home screen. Use the terminal application the same way you use it on your Mac, entering command lines to install your favorite apps.
