How to Repair a Vacuum Cleaner Hose
The majority of vacuum cleaners suction dirt and debris through the vacuum cleaner hose even when the vacuum is in floor-clean mode. The dirt is picked up by the rollers on the base of the vacuum and sucked up through the hose that wraps up and over the handle of the sweeper. If the hose is disconnected, it can be used as a cleaning wand or crevice device with a few special attachments. While this design is convenient, it presents a problem. If the cleaner hose becomes clogged, the entire sweeper is out of commission until the hose is repaired. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Unplug the vacuum cleaner and move it outdoors if possible. If it is not possible, place a drop cloth on the floor to prevent the dust and dirt from the vacuum hose from soiling the floor.
-
2
Locate the two places where the vacuum hose is attached to the base of the vacuum. Pull one side of the vacuum hose up and out of the base. Quickly move the end of the hose away from the sweeper and into the garbage bag. Shake vigorously to move all loose dirt and debris down the hose and into the bag. Rest the end of the hose on the floor. Pull the other end of the hose out of the base of the vacuum and repeat above steps.

Shine the flashlight through the hose to locate the clog. Determine the location of the clog and how far it is from the end of the hose. Unclasp and straighten the wire hanger. Place the wire hanger into the end of the hose nearest the clog. Push the hanger through the clog, and move it in a circular motion to dislodge the clog.
-
4
Remove the wire hanger. Hold the hose vertically over the garbage bag. Shake the hose until the clog falls out of the hose.
-
5
Return to the sweeper base, and check the holes where the hose is inserted for clogs. Insert your fingers into the holes to locate any clogs that might not be visible. Remove the clogs manually.
-
6
Reattach the vacuum hose to the sweeper. Plug the vacuum in, and check for any additional problems.

Tips & Warnings
If you suffer from allergies, wear a mask when you work on your sweeper. Dust and allergens will be released into the air during the process. A mask will prevent you from breathing them in.
