Want a natural deodorant? Alum crystals make a good alternative to artificial antiperspirants. Known as "samsom" in Thailand, "tawas" in the Philippines and "alumbre" in Spanish-speaking countries, alum is a type of salt with anti-bacterial properties that make it effective in preventing body odor. Instructions

    • 1

Buy a large piece of alum crystal at your favorite natural products store.

    • 2

Remove the alum out of the box and wash it. Then place it on a soap dish or other container beside the bathroom sink.

    • 3

Have a good bath. Wash your under arms with soap and water thoroughly.

    • 4

Wash the crystal so it's wet and dripping. Rub it gently against the skin of your armpits. You need to do this for just a few seconds.

    • 5

Wash the alum crystal again and put it back on the dish.

    • 6

If you bought alum as a block of salt instead of a crystal, use a mortar and pestle to grind the salt into a fine powder. With your index finger, scoop up some of the mix and apply to your under arms.
