Hanging on through the rough spots will bring you to the other side.

Many people spend an excessive amount of time watching TV, on their smartphone or on the Internet. These, among many other distractions, often keep people from focusing on their goals. To break out of this never-ending cycle, you have to find a new perspective to find your determination in life again. Figure out what you want and why you want it and let that be your starting point to motivate you.

Instructions

    • 1

Keep your goals in check and make sure your actions reflect your priorities. Remember how sometimes you wake up, and you feel this tremendous motivation and sense of accomplishment? An idea may pop in your head, and maybe you make a mental note stating that you'll commit to a related goal, but sooner or later this feeling of joy starts to fade away. Whenever you notice yourself slipping, break away from your comfort zone and remember your priorities and goals. Determination may happen overnight, or it may take some time, but do not let anyone or anything sidetrack you from your priorities.

Visualize your own success. It is understandable that you may need a wake-up call every now and then. To solve this issue, keep in mind the possible rewarding experience you will achieve once this goal is under your belt. Picture it and feel it every day as if it's already happening, right here in the present.

    • 3

Write down your goals. It's not the same thing to make a quick mental note to yourself saying, "I have to do this." When you write down your tasks, you are constantly reminded that these are things you have to do, and are more likely not to put these ideas in the back of your head where you might forget them.

    • 4

Post sticky notes on the fridge, as the kitchen is a place everyone visits often. Even better, these days most people have smartphones at hand. Most of these include some sort of task manager, scheduler or calendar that lets you input reminders. Put the available technology to good use. Not keeping yourself motivated and determined using available tools is merely grounds for future excuses.

Tips & Warnings

  • Take breaks from your goals to give you a chance to relax and re-energize. It will help you build up more determination again for the next round of action.
