How to Make Soy & Paraffin Blend Candles

Making your own candles can be fun a project for everyone. Candles make excellent gifts and can liven up home decor. Soy wax is a creamy wax that gives off a soft light and scent. When melted the wax liquefies, requiring it to be used in a container. Traditional paraffin wax is a hard wax that gives off a warm glow. Paraffin hardens quickly after melting. By blending the wax, you can make a unique and sturdy candle that will burn for a long time.

Instructions

  1. Creating your Candle

    • 1

Melt 2 parts soy wax to 3 parts paraffin wax in a double boiler. Use one of the long sticks to stir the mixture.

    • 2

Tie wick to the other long stick. Measure the wick once it is tied so it reaches to the bottom of the Mason jar.

    • 3

Dip the wick 2 - 3 times in the hot wax. Wait 5 seconds between each dip. This will keep the wick straight and prevent it from floating in the wax. Let it dry.

    • 4

Place the wick on the stick in the Mason jar with the stick lying across the top. Pour the hot wax in the jar until just below the rim. Let cool 24 to 36 hours depending on the size of the jar.

    • 5

      Trim the wick 1/2 inch.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add crayon shavings while melting the wax to add color. Once you remove the wax from then heat you can add a few drops of essential oil to add scent to your candles.

  • Boiling wax can be very hot, so if you accidentally spill any on your skin seek medical attention immediately.
