How to Use Tissue Paper to Shade Other Paper
Thin and delicate, tissue paper has many uses from the practical to the artistic. A little bit of liquid starch combined with tissue paper shapes can add a whole new dimension of color to ordinary construction paper. This does not require a high level of artistic skill and even the youngest arts-and-crafts enthusiasts may experiment with translucent color while creating original art.

Shading with Tissue Paper
-
1
Lay a piece of construction paper on top of the newspaper on a flat surface.
-
2
Tear the tissue paper into various shapes. Be as creative as you like. There is no right or wrong way to do this.
-
-
3
Arrange the tissue paper pieces into a design on the construction paper. This can be an abstract or realistic design, the choice is up to the individual artist.
-
4
Pour liquid starch into the bowl.
-
5
Dip the paintbrush into the starch and carefully paint over the tissue paper shapes, one shape at a time. The starch will adhere the tissue paper to the construction paper. The wet tissue paper takes on a translucent quality while allowing the original color of the construction paper to bleed through, creating a whole new shade of color.
