How to Tie the Back of a Swimming Suit

Summer days evoke images of beaches, pools, sunglasses, and bathing suits. Those suits look fantastic in the store or in the catalog, but getting the suit home and figuring out how to wear it is another matter. Tying the back of a swimming suit isn't as complicated as it may seem. There are basically three different swimming suit back types: the halter style, the criss-cross, and the strapless back. All involve tying two, or sometimes more, strings into a secure bow. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Halter Style Swimming Suit

    • 1

      Put the swim suit on.

    • 2

Take the strings hanging from the top of the suit in each hand and lift them up toward your head, and behind your neck.

    • 3

Tie the two ties (strings) of the halter style swimming suit around the back of your neck in a tight bow. If you are large busted, you might want to tie it in a knot and then tie the strings in a bow.

    Criss-Cross Swimming Suit

    • 4

Put on the swimming suit and examine the straps. Criss-cross swimming suits often have variations on the ties. Most have straps or ties connected to the top of the bathing suit like a halter style, but the ties cross in an X over the back and slip through a little fabric loop on each side of the bathing suit bodice under or by the shoulder blades, then you tie it across the back. Some have a straight strap that connects with a bra hook, and then also has criss-crossing ties or straps.

    • 5

Take the left tie in your left hand and the right tie in your right hand and lift them up toward your head and over your shoulders. Lay the ties on your shoulders.

    • 6

Reach with your right hand to the left tie hanging on your back and hold it. Reach with your left hand to the right tie hanging on your back and hold it.

    • 7

Thread the ties through the fabric loops or plastic rings, depending on what your suit has. The right tie will thread through the left loop/ring and the left tie will thread through the right loop/ring so they form an X across your back.

    • 8

Reaching behind your back, grasp a tie in each hand and pull it tight, adjusting the front of your swimming suit and then tie in a secure bow.

    Strapless Swimming Suit

    • 9

Put on your swimming suit by inserting your bust into the cups/top. If it is a two-piece swim suit, hold the suit onto your chest with one hand, while reaching behind your back with the other hand to grasp the two ties.

    • 10

Hold the ties together tightly while letting go of the front of the swim suit.

    • 11

Grasp the left tie in the left hand and the right tie in the right hand and tie the ties in a knot or a bow. Often strapless swim suits have wider fabric ties on the back necessitating a knot rather than a bow due to the width of the fabric.

Tips & Warnings

  • Tying a double tie swim suit is the like tying the halter style and the strapless style combined. Tie the top ties around your neck, and the side ties around the back.
