How to Make1960s Paper Flowers
In the 1960s it became fashionable to make or purchase large paper flowers. These flowers referenced the 'flower power' movement that used the flower to represent peace. Large paper flowers of this era were based on Mexican flower designs, and the flower head could be as large as 8 inches. Smaller Mexican paper flowers also became popular as decorations.

1
Select crepe paper that is 6 inches by 6 inches in size. This will create a 3-inch tall flower head. Choose one or two colors that blend well together.
-
2
Layer the crepe paper one color over another. Straighten the paper, and fold one side over by 1 inch. Fold the same folded edge under by 1 inch, creating an accordion-type fold. Continue to fold all the way across the papers.

-
3
Holding the folds together, cut and round the 1 inch ends using scissors.
-
4
Pinch the folded paper in the middle and tightly wrap stem wire around the center point.
-
5
Press the paper away from the stem. Unfold and separate the folds of crepe paper. The paper will naturally bend and curl, becoming full.

Tips & Warnings
Experiment with different cut ends to create different types of flowers. Add more sheets for fuller flowers and fewer sheets for more structured flowers. Add a green sheet at the bottom to shape as smaller leaves for added effects.
