How to Use a Lemon Peeler

The outer part, or peel, of a lemon provides most of the lemons flavor, this is where the essential oils are located. Lemon peel is used in many dishes, from desserts to main courses, in restaurants and in homes around the world. In order to cook with lemon peel it must first be removed from the lemon with a lemon zester, or lemon peeler. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

      Wash the lemon under cool running water to remove all dirt or debris. Dry the lemon completely by patting it with a clean paper towel.

      Grip the lemon with your hand and firmly press the blade of the lemon peeler into the lemon peel. When using a lemon peeler with a zester on it, use the blade in the middle of the zester.

      Slowly twist the lemon with one hand while making sure to hold the lemon peeler steady in the other. Apply enough pressure on the lemon peeler to get a nice deep cut without actually puncturing through the lemon. Keep twisting the lemon until all the peel is removed, or until you have the right amount for your needs.

  • A lemon peeler can also be used on limes, and oranges.
