How to Lubricate Bicycle Pedals With Grease
Removing old bicycle pedals can be surprisingly aggravating. When the pedals were first put on, if they were not lubricated with a bit of grease, then aging and corrosion can fuse the pedal shaft to the crank arm and leave you swinging your pedal wrench in dismay. The solution is simple enough. Just grease the next set of pedals you put on a bike.

1
Check the threads in both the crank arm and the pedal shaft to make sure they are free of corrosion and dirt. Clean off any foreign materials you see using a clean cloth and a mild solvent like rubbing alcohol.
-
2
Smear a small amount of grease over the threads on the pedal shaft.

3
Attach the pedal to the crank arm. Clean off any grease that is pressed out from the pedal shaft.

4
Coat the pedal surfaces in a light layer of machinist's oil to prevent corrosion.

Tips & Warnings
Use a medium-viscosity grease to lubricate the pedal shafts, not a thin oil.
