How to Donate a Car to the ASPCA

Through an online resource, the ASPCA makes it easy for donors to contribute to its cause of preventing cruelty to animals. As a charity, the ASPCA takes monetary and actual donations, including vehicles. According to the website Vehicle Donation to Any Charity, this organization partners with charities like the ASPCA and will sell your car-in good or poor condition-and pass the profits on to the ASPCA.

Instructions

Know the information on the car you want to donate. Make a note of year, make, model, VIN, mileage, title information and where the vehicle is located.

Check out the website aspca.org and click on "Contact Us" to get phone numbers and email addresses if you have questions about donating your car. Click on the "Donate" tab and scroll down to "More Ways to Donate." Scroll down the page to "Other Ways to Donate" and select "vehicle donation." You can donate by phone at (877) 999-8322.
The ASPCA partners with Vehicle Donation to Any Charity (V-DAC). The website's link takes you directly to the donation form online. Fill out the paperwork and submit. Forms can also be mailed to donors. Contact V-DAC at (877) 999-8322 for mailing address and instructions.

Prepare your car to be towed. Remove all personal possessions or items from the car. V-DAC partners with numerous businesses and will send someone to tow the car. According to the V-DAC website, it will take a few days after receipt of paperwork for the vehicle to be towed. You don't have to present when the car is towed.

Deduct the donation on your taxes. If the car sells for less than $500, you can deduct the fair market value of up to $500. To get an idea of what your car is worth prior to donation, check out Kelley Blue Book for information. See resources below for the IRS guide to vehicle donation.
