All cleaning and shaving of your goat can be done at home before the show. It is best to shave your goat a few days before the show to allow that "just cut" look to grow out.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Chain Or Nylon Pet Collars
  • Small Animal Clippers And Guards
  • Grooming Brush
  • Lead Ropes

Step1
Place the goat in a milking stand or tied securely to its pen.
Step2
Use a 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch guard on the shears, depending on the length of your goat's hair.
Step3
Clip the entire goat.
Step4
Brush the goat and look for long hair.
Step5
Shave the udder. Use shears without a guard for a close, clean look. Do this step very carefully, as you can burn or nick your goat.

Tips & Warnings

  • Talk to other goat owners in your area and have a goat-shaving day. This is a good way for beginners to learn how to shave goats correctly.

on 6/30/2006 If you are clipping a show wether, don't shave it at all! You can get disqualified in some show rings for shaving past the knees and for shaving the whole tail. You should leave about two inches of the tip of the tail, not shaved, instead make the end look like a rectangle on the end of the tail. On the legs you need to stay half an inch about the joint, and level the hair of in a horizontal line.
