All cleaning and shaving of your goat can be done at home before the show. It is best to shave your goat a few days before the show to allow that "just cut" look to grow out.

If you are clipping a show wether, don't shave it at all! You can get disqualified in some show rings for shaving past the knees and for shaving the whole tail. You should leave about two inches of the tip of the tail, not shaved, instead make the end look like a rectangle on the end of the tail. On the legs you need to stay half an inch about the joint, and level the hair of in a horizontal line.

Goats are fun. Furthermore, a cleanly shaved goat is even more fun. Lastly, I would like to say that shaving a goats horns is not necessary. That fact was not mentioned in the above instructions.

on 7/28/2006 When shaving Saanen goats, make sure that they have some sort of jacket so that they do not get sunburned!

on 11/22/2005 Take the time and trim the hair around the goat's feet and inside its ears. It will make the goat look better.
