Take your Scottie puppy outside to do her business at the same times every day. Your puppy is more likely to have to go after she eats and after sleeping. She will probably have to go about every two hours, as well. If you set up a routine with your puppy, this will help her understand the potty-training process better.

Choose a door that you want your Scottie to exit through and a spot outside where you want her to eliminate every time. Consistently use that door and go to the same spot to show her what is expected when she goes outside.

Keep your puppy in a crate when you cannot supervise. For example, most puppies that are crate trained sleep in their crates and are kept there when their owners are away. She will be less likely to eliminate in the crate than if she has full access to your home.

Show your puppy you are happy with her behavior after she goes potty outside by rewarding her with treats or petting her. She will eventually learn that going to the bathroom in the appropriate place creates rewards and she will strive to earn them.

Put the crate in an area that is quiet and isolated. Your Scottie puppy will eventually feel that this is her place to relax and feel secure, like she would in her den. Create this positive association by feeding her in her crate and leaving the door open when she does not have to be in it. You should also praise her when she enters the crate, but not when she exits. This will teach her that she will be rewarded if she goes inside her crate.
Accidents happen. Not every puppy picks up on potty training from the start. Just clean the area with an enzymatic cleaner and continue to train.
