How to Download Flash Games


You've just spent 20 minutes playing your favorite flash game on the web. Just as you're about to conquer the game, your internet inexplicably goes out and, with it, your connection to your game. Fortunately, you can play the game offline. All it takes is downloading the flash game from the website to your own hard drive. It's simple, easy and will save you from any future frustrations with unreliable internet connections.

Things You'll Need

  • Compatible web browser (Firefox web browser 2.0 or higher, Internet Explorer 7 or higher, Safari 3 or higher)

Using Firefox

  • Navigate your Firefox web browser to the website containing the flash game you wish to download.

  • Click the "Tools" option from the toolbar at the top of the browser. From the pull down menu that appears, choose "Page Info."

  • Choose the "Media" tab at the top of the "Page Info" window.

  • Scroll through the list of files in the "Media" screen. Flash games will be listed as an "embed" and have an extension of .swf. Under the scrolling list of files, look for area designated "Type." The Flash game should be listed as an "application/x-shockwave-flash."

  • Select the Flash game file in the scrolling list of files, and hit the "Save As" button above the "Media Preview" window.

  • Designate the file with a recognizable name in the explorer window that pops up, and hit "Save."

Using Internet Explorer

  • Navigate to the web page that contains the flash game you wish to download.

  • Click the "Tools" tab at the upper right hand of the browser and choose "Internet Options."

  • Click "Settings" under "Browsing History" on the "General" tab.

  • Click the "View Files" button.

  • Click the "View" button in the upper left-hand corner of the explorer window, and ensure that the "Details" option is selected.

  • Locate the Flash file and right-click.

  • Choose "copy" from the menu that appears.

  • Paste the file in a folder where you can easily locate it or on your desktop.

Using Safari

  • Navigate to the web page that contains the Flash file you wish to download.

  • Choose the "Window" menu at the top of the screen.

  • Choose "Activity" from the pull-down list.

  • Search through the list of files for the Flash game you wish to download. The file will end with a .swf suffix.

  • Double-click the file to download to your desktop.

Tips & Warnings

  • Flash games that require the participation of users across the web won't work as intended once you have downloaded them for offline play. Likewise, scores or badges will not be recorded in the game's online database during these offline sessions.
