How to Get Rid Of and Prevent Body Acne
There are hundreds of acne products on the market geared toward skin problems on your face, but body acne still seems to be a taboo subject. Having body acne can be just as devastating as pimples on your face. Makeup can hide some issues, but not all. The following steps should help clear the skin on your body and keep it clear.
Things You'll Need
- Cleansing product containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide
- Body brush with a long handle
- Oil-free lotion
- Breathable clothing
- Medicated body pads

Look for cleansers that contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Products marketed for facial acne will also work on your body. Sal acid is one of the gentlest and most effective acne-fighting ingredients available without a prescription, but it may not be strong enough for the severity of the acne you're dealing with. A benzoyl peroxide formula is more effective on tougher cases of acne but may have a drying effect.

2
Use a body brush so you can reach all areas of your back, but don't use it to try to exfoliate your acne away. Scrubbing your skin too hard can irritate it and make you break out more.

3
Wash your body after shampooing and conditioning your hair when you shower. When you rinse your hair, those products can run down your back and shoulders and find their way into your pores, causing breakouts. Washing your skin as a last step in the shower will ensure that all your pores are clear.

Check to make sure the moisturizing products you use are oil-free. Products with oil tend to clog pores. You may also want to look into lotions containing sal acid or benzoyl peroxide. Using medicated lotion is an efficient way to fight acne around the clock.

5
Wear breathable, loose-fitting clothing during workouts and shower immediately afterward. Don't give acne a chance to form by letting bacteria-packed sweat dry on your skin. If you don't have time to hit the showers right away, use medicated body pads that contain sal acid or benzoyl peroxide.

6
Don't sleep in the same clothing more than once. During the night, you may sweat and deposit bacteria on your clothes. Putting the same clothing back on your skin will create a breeding ground for acne.

Tips & Warnings
Consider changing the brand of your detergent. Your skin issues may be a result of an allergic reaction from an ingredient in the detergent.
Never pick at a blemish; it can make the area worse and cause permanent scarring.
