How to Replace a Lost Driving License

Losing your driver's license can be frustrating. A driver's license (or state-issued identification card) is necessary for a number of things that need to be done on a daily basis, such as cashing a check or making certain purchases. It is also illegal to operate a motor vehicle without a driver's license in your possession, so replacing a lost license should be done as soon as possible.

• Two forms of proper identification

1. Visit the DMV Guide website to learn your state's requirements.

2. File a police report for your lost license if it is a requirement in your state.

3. Go to your local driving license station to apply for a duplicate license.

4. Bring at least two forms of proper identification (social security card, birth certificate, passport, etc.). Some states may also require that you bring a piece of mail with your name and address on it.

5. Bring some sort of money (cash, check, credit card or debit card) to pay duplicate license fee. This fee varies from state to state so call your local driving license station beforehand to determine how much it will be.
