How to Change a Palm User Name
For many generations of Palm Pilot operating systems, the Palm software has utilized a "user name" function as a means of separating one Palm device from another when multiple devices are synced with the same computer. Since your user name is tied to your phone's backup data, you can't create a new user name without creating new data files. Instead, you must change your old user name, connecting the new name to the existing data.

Open the Palm Desktop program. If you don't have this, it can be downloaded for free from the Palm website.

Click the drop-down bar in the upper right corner of the program. This is the one with a list of user names (when you open the program, it will bear the name of the current user). Select "Edit Users..." from the drop-down bar; a window will appear with a list of that computer's currently-registered users displayed on it.

Select the user name you want to change by clicking on it.

Click the button marked "Rename." This button will be grayed out until you select the name, at which point it will become active.

Type the new user name you want and hit "enter."

Click "Done." The user dialogue box will vanish, bringing you back to the main Palm Desktop display.

Plug your Palm unit into your computer and perform a Hot Sync operation. This will coordinate the change of name with your handheld unit, keeping the new name if you later sync that Palm with a different computer.
