How to Make an Eye With GIMP
If you use a lot of graphics in your work, you know that the more arresting an image is, the more likely it is to hold the attention of the viewer or customer. And, there are few things more attention getting than a large eye staring right at you. This image place on ads, flyers or T-shirts is always eye-catching. If you would like to create an eye to add to your ads, a good program to use for the purpose is the freeware program GIMP. GIMP has many of the features, functions and filters of its pricey cousin, but at no cost.

Go to GIMP.org and download the GIMP application. Install it to your computer. Now click on the GIMP shortcut on your desktop to start the program.

Select "File" from the menu and then "New." A sizing dialog will open. Make the pixel width and height whatever you require for your project, but keep in mind that the raster graphics produced by programs like GIMP or Photoshop are not infinitely expandable. If you think you might want this larger later, make it big to begin with.

Go to the bottom of the "Layer" panel and click on the "New Layer" button. Name it "Eye" in the dialog that opens and click "OK."

Now click on the "Pen" tool in the toolbar. Use it to draw the outer rim of the eye in a series of points. To close the path you have created hold down the "CTRL" key and click the first point to created. In the panel on the lower left click "Edit"Use the tool to adjust the points and the bezier curves. Then click on the "Stroke Path" button.

Create a new layer, name it "Iris", and use the "Pen" tool to draw in the shape of the iris. Once you have stroked it, use the fill tool to add color. Continue this process of adding new elements to layers to create the pupil, the eyelashes and the folds of the eye. Save your work as a high resolution JPEG.
