Gather all the information you will need in order to obtain a copy of a person's death certificate. This means you will need the deceased's date and place of death and his full name, as well as the relationship to you.

Direct your browser to VitalCheck's website as listed in the resource section. VitalCheck offers birth and death certificates online and is currently the only company offering official certificates online.

Select "death certificate" from the Start Your Order box on the right hand side. Click "Continue."

Pick which state the deceased died in, even if it is different from the state you reside in. For example, if you live in New York but the deceased died in Tennessee, you would select Tennessee. Either click the appropriate state on the map or select it from the dropdown menu. Click "Continue" again.

Select the city in which the death occurred from the dropdown menu. Click "Continue."

Enter the deceased's date of death as entered on the original death certificate. Click "Continue."

Select the reason for which you need the extra copy of the death certificate and click "Continue."

Select the agency you would like to obtain the record through, then select whether it was a death with cause or without. Click "Select" for the appropriate certificate.

Enter the number of extra copies you would like of the certificate, if any. Note that each copy costs extra to your total amount. When you have the right number of copies, click "Continue" to move on.

Input your full legal name and relationship to the deceased, then click "Continue." Enter the deceased's full legal name and gender, then click "Continue."

Enter the shipping information for your certificates. Select what method of shipping you would like them to be sent by, then click "Continue."

Enter billing address for the order, then click "Continue" and verify the addresses listed before clicking "Continue" again.
